“I have painted this group of silver birch trees on Froggatt Edge many times, being drawn to their twisted shapes and colour against the heather moorland.
The breeze on this September evening was fortunately enough to keep the midges off, so I was able to work until twilight.
It was rutting season and I could hear a stag bellowing on the moor behind me towards White Edge. A great end to the day’s painting.”
