“My good friend, the late Wilfred Ball, a watercolour artist, wanted to show me the Isle of Skye. We drove to Torrin near Loch Slapin, where he showed me a dramatic view of Blaven, a mountain just over 900 metres high, which dominated the landscape.
We drove round the Loch and parked at the base of the River Alit na Dunaiche, which flowed from the mountain range and we walked the footpath towards Blaven. The warm colours of the glen in the sunshine looked so strong against the dramatic mountain range. For painters that love wild places, the Scottish landscape offers such a powerful atmospheric experience. I have visited the Isle of Skye many times since then and never cease to be amazed by the mountainous landscape.” Rex Preston
