“Froggatt Edge is one of the gritstone Derbyshire edges, which run from Ladybower Reservoir all the way along the Derwent Valley to Chatsworth.
It is a brilliant place to walk in the snow on a winter afternoon as the sun lowers. The edge is about 300 metres high, so with the right weather conditions, the late afternoon light can fill the woods with a warm glow.
On this November afternoon, as I approached the edge of the wood, the trees began to thin and the open moors dominated the view. The sun was just beginning to set and I found this group of silver birch trees silhouetted against the warm sky. The sunlight casting long shadows on the snow provided me with a fascinating snow subject.”
